RF test invigorated by Averna’s Universal Receiver Tester™ (URT) 4.2 digital radio and video innovations

Montreal, QC, December 17, 2008 - Global test engineering company Averna today announced version 4.2 of its signature RF test platform, the Universal Receiver Tester™ (URT). This version marks the addition of the RF Library Player to the Record & Playback and Signal Generator systems, rendering the URT a more flexible tool for helping automakers, receiver manufacturers, and semi-conductor OEMs efficiently test their RF products. Version 4.2 also expands the URT’s footprint for the latest digital radio and video protocols with pre-recorded test file libraries and software toolkits for DAB, DAB+, DMB, DVB-T, ATSC, and Sirius overlay, entrenching it as the most complete instrument of its kind available today.

“Simply put, URT 4.2 brings the world of RF signals right into the lab, helping OEMs reduce the cost of expensive overseas travel and changing the paradigm for how they achieve test productivity,” said Sophie Gigliotti, senior product marketing manager, URT. “The URT team has conducted extensive market research and has integrated customer feature requests to develop version 4.2, which will help the world’s leading OEMs ensure the excellence of their mobile multimedia products in the wake of intense digital radio and video signal convergence.”

URT 4.2 also offers nanosecond synchronization for dual-channel RF recording applications such as phase diversity receiver testing, as well as enhanced tools for easier calibration and configuration of the URT Record & Playback system. In addition, a GPS Constellation Simulator that was previously available as an add-on has now become a fully integrated toolkit.

DVB-T Player Software Toolkit
Averna has partnered with Digital TV Labs to obtain DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting) test file libraries, and to sell them worldwide. Available with URT 4.2, the DVB-T Player Software Toolkit will help automotive and semi-conductor OEMs working with DVB to launch superior products that meet numerous legal, technical, and market requirements in Europe and beyond.

ATSC Player Software Toolkit
URT 4.2 provides access to pre-recorded test file libraries issued by the ATSC Committee and distributed by MSTV. This toolkit will be useful to OEMs testing integrated circuits for TV sets and in-vehicle entertainment and navigation systems for North American markets, and who have limited access to live ATSC streams.

Vericast DenMux
Vericast’s DenMux DAB/DAB+/DMB Multiplexer and test file libraries are available with URT 4.2, equipping users to either access Vericast content or create their own. The multiplexing capability enables the efficient transmission of several radio and video signals simultaneously over the same frequency channels for improved multimedia performance.

Sirius Satellite Radio (SDARS) overlay
Averna is one of only two authorized providers of Sirius Satellite Radio (SDARS) test equipment. The Sirius overlay feature available with URT 4.2 provides access to the latest Sirius standards, allowing in-vehicle radio and multimedia system manufacturers to test their products for richer and more reliable Sirius signal coverage.
