Automated Functional Testing of Digital Microwave Radios

Customer:

A global provider of solutions for mobile and fixed-network applications, including 4G wireless broadband and microwave radio equipment.

Challenge:

Design and build a complete, multistation production test system for a new family of two-way digital microwave radios, helping the customer meet stringent time-to-market requirements in a highly competitive market space.

Solution:

Averna developed a series of custom, automated test stations for temperature cycling, functional testing, and structural diagnostics. Integrating a wide variety of Agilent hardware products, each station handles multiple test types and incorporates diverse RF technologies to accommodate regional versions of each radio. Averna provided installation and commissioning services for the stations at production sites worldwide, and used Proligent® enterprise test software to enable automatic test updates and real-time data reporting over the web.

Results:

By outsourcing test system development to a test engineering leader with a decade of experience in all aspects of RF instrumentation, the customer has accelerated NPI cycles significantly while maintaining the highest level of product quality. Through this long-term partnership, it has implemented a more efficient test infrastructure, and has enabled its resources to better focus on test engineering activities with a product development focus, such as defining NPI test plans and expanding test coverage for new RF technologies.
