Opvista accelerates test with Proligent and saves $200K

Challenge:

OpVista needed to simplify and accelerate test for sophisticated optical transport circuit cards. With ramped-up production, they required increased visibility over CM activities.

The Proligent test engineering platform automated manual sequences, and supplied real-time reporting and visibility. Averna became a long-term test engineering arm, providing reliable test expertise.

Test times cut from 4 hours to 15 minutes, training time cut by 50%. $200K savings on test system development in first year.

The search for test efficiency

When the optical transport circuit cards found in the OpVista2000 moved from low to high-volume production, test activities became more complex. Each card has unique specifications and has to interface with different hardware, including high-speed oscilloscopes, traffic generators, and a wide range of optical test equipment.

“We needed a common test software architecture that would standardize and simplify our tests,” said Jean Deslauriers, manufacturing test engineering director at OpVista. “We knew that the secret to cutting test time and speeding up time-to-market was to find a solution to automate our manual test processes.”

As OpVista ramped up production, they started outsourcing certain test activities to a Contract Manufacturer (CM), which brought the added challenge of efficiently updating test stations from a distance. Test engineers and managers needed a way to maintain visibility and control over these remote test operations.
